Grey-Sitting Coop

When you’re out of town, having the peace of mind that your greyhound is being cared for by someone who knows greyhound quirks and foibles is invaluable. The Edmonton Grey-Sitting Coop is a directory of just such people! These individuals and families are experienced greyhound owners that would love to take care of your grey while you are out of town or otherwise need a sitter. Below you will find contact information, details, and costs associated.

Are you interested in being a Grey-sitter? To be listed on this page, please email me with the details! Suggested information is: how many greys and other pets in your house, area of the city/surrounding area, primary contact information, some details about what the visiting grey can expect, and compensation arrangement.

Disclaimer: Edmonton Greyhounds and the webmaster do not guarantee or imply a guarantee of the services. This is simply a referral service for local hound owners and sitters. Please ask for references and use your own judgment while interviewing potential caretakers for your grey!

Name: Glenna and Quinn Klaver, and Gil (5 yo male grey)
Location: Sherwood Park
Contact: GKlaver@edmonton.ymca.ca
Description: Gil loves to have company! He is kenneled while we are at work during the day. The guest dog owners are responsible for supplying food, bedding and a crate/Xpen. I would be interested in trades of grey-sitting services or donations to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue as a fee. Contact me for more details!

Name: Brett Lewis and Jonathan Hamill, and Gino (male grey)
Location: SW Edmonton
Contact: b_lewis88@hotmail.com
Description: We would be interested in greyhound sitting with an agreement of exchanging sitting services (you go away, we care for your hound; we go away, you care for ours, assuming no scheduling conflicts and the living situation is compatible). We are very active with our greyhound Gino, taking him for walks in the neighbourhood and/or play dates to the dog park or outdoor arenas. Gino is a very playful and social hound who gets along well with other dogs. We have two rabbits in the house, but they are confined to a separate room with a barrier. Use your judgment on your dog’s prey drive. We are both generally not home during the work week between 8 am and 4 pm due to work and school.

Name: Deb and John Ward, and their pack
Location: Gibbons
Contact: debjo@albertacom.com or 780 942 4163
Description: Sam, Zinny, and the gang would welcome short term visitors. There is a cat here though we can handle a non-cat safe dog for short periods of time. We have a secure turn out area off the back door and a one acre fenced play area. Our own dogs are either crated or muzzled when we work so any visiting hound would be crated when we are not home. We charge $12 per day per dog (you supply food), payable in advance by cheque made out to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue.

Name: Ruth Fridhandler and Katy Mackay, and Luke (8.5 yo male grey), Emma (Belgian Shepherd-Border Collie mix), and Timmy (Golden Retriever)
Location: Centre NE Edmonton
Contact: ruth@ebwhite.com and katy@ebwhite.com (best to email both of us)
Description: We can dog sit for a cat-safe hound who is comfortable around other breeds. Timmy is young and bouncy, and Emma is very submissive to sight hounds. Emma sometimes herds Luke when outside but doesn’t bother other hounds. We need to crate Luke while we’re away during thunderstorm season, but during the holidays and pretty much from October through at least March (or when thunderstorms start again), we have a crate available for a guest. Katy and the kids (15 and 11 year old boys) are off over the holidays, so the dogs won’t be home alone too much (the dogs are normally not home alone for longer than 5 hours). We’d love to have a guest. It’s an active household so the guest grey won’t be bored! Our fee would be a donation to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue; contact us for details!

Name: Amanda/Ian/William with Mooner (6yr old male) and Bing (10 yr old male)
Location: West Edmonton
Contact: amandameilingle@yahoo.com
Description: We would be happy to take one grey into our cat free home. Only small animal is a snake that is not accessible to the hounds. When we have visiting hounds all hounds are muzzled when nobody is home unless you prefer to have your hound crated (ours are not). We are away during the day from 8am-4pm Mon-Fri but one of us always comes home mid day to let them out. We have a small fenced yard but have a great big field across the street for nice long walks. We have quite a few stairs so they should be comfortable with stairs. We prefer that everyone meet prior to their stay just to make sure they get along. Donations of $12/day (negotiable for long stays) made payable to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue or swap sitting services.

Name: Sarah Cornett, Bruce Clark, the kids (10, 13, 15 yrs), and Baron (male greyhound, 3 yrs)
Location: St. Albert
Contact: wbruceclark@hotmail.com or 780-418-2859
Description: Baron and the kids love extra canine company and we have had several greyt guests this past year fostering and sitting. Sarah works from home so the dogs have company much of the time. We do have a Guinea pig who lives in one of the kid’s bedroom so dogs with very strong prey drives may not be happy. When no one is home and at night, dogs will be separated by crate, x-pen, or other suitable enclosure. The guest dog owners are responsible for supplying food, bedding, and crate or x-pen. We will accept grey-sitting trades or a $12/day donation to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue. Please give Sarah a call to review details and if possible an advance meeting. We look forward to hearing from you and your greyhound!

Name: Jeff & Michelle Casavant, Onyx (8 yr male) and Ruby (4 yr female)
Location: West Edmonton
Contact: jmcasa@shaw.ca, (780) 424-3139
Description: Onyx and Ruby are happy to welcome visiting greys for short stays. Jeff & I both work weekdays, so visitors need to be comfortable being crated or x-penned while we’re away (usually about 8 hours). We have a small fenced yard, but always go for walks too. The guest dog owners are responsible for supplying food, bedding, and crate or x-pen. We are open to grey-sitting trades or a $12/day donation to Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue.
