What can we say? Even the warming trend means it’ll be BRRRRRR this weekend for hounds. Stay tuned for February rescheduling, though!

Sue will be hosting the January Edmonton greyhound walk on Sunday, January 22! Join us for a leisurely stroll through river valley. Meet at 1:00 pm at Kinsmen Field House for a lovely greyhound get together!

Has anyone built an ark yet? Seriously…

The hourly forecast doesn’t show much clearing before mid-afternoon, and even then it’s clearing to thunderstorms, so we’ll be canceling tomorrow’s walk. I am unable to attend on June 26, but if someone else would like to host, please let me know. Otherwise, we’ll hope we don’t float away before July 24, when we’ll be walking in Snow Valley!

It’s Father’s Day, so let your hound treat you to a nice walk! Sunday’s forecast is for scattered showers, but with any luck we’ll miss them. We’ll be walking at the Strathcona Science Provincial Park (10980 – 17 Street). We’ll meet in the parking lot further into the park, near the buildings at the top of the ridge, so head further south into the park to the parking lot there. We’ll meet at 2 pm for about an hour’s walk.

April 17′s walk has switched locations from the River Valley to the Edmonton Garrison. Ewen has offered to take us on one of his favourite 4 km routes around the base. The walk promises to be flat and easy for those hounds who maybe have lost some stamina over the winter (their owners, of course, haven’t lost any stamina whatsoever).

Arrive at the Edmonton Garrison Military Fitness Centre by 2 pm to take part in this walk. Park beside the Field House rather than right in front of the Centre, facing Coriano Street (see this map). If coming north on 97 Street towards the base, please be careful when you take the first entrance onto the base as it is a little pot-holey right there at the construction. An alternative for those who want to save their undercarriage is to continue north and take the second entrance onto the base.

Our St. Patrick’s Day walk will start at the Muttart Conservatory and wind up the Mill Creek Ravine. The Muttart Conservatory is located at 9626 – 96A Street, Edmonton. Meet in the parking lot at 2 pm!

As always this time of year, the walk is weather-dependent. Please check this site closer to the date for an update!

It’s looking like a nice warm weekend, so we’ll go ahead with our Valentine’s Walk on Sunday February 13 around Beaumaris Lake in North Edmonton. The trail is a relatively flat, leisurely 3 km from beginning to end, and this trail is generally plowed, so hopefully it’ll be a good walking surface. Meet at Bishop Savaryn Elementary School, located at 16215 – 109 Street, at 2 pm. Click here for a map of the walk. Come share the greyhound love for Valentine’s Day!

December’s walk is an annual tradition for Edmonton greyhounds: the Santa Claus Parade through the indoor pedways downtown. This year, the parade takes place Sunday, December 5, from 10:00 am to about noon. The hounds play the role of Santa’s reindeer (and assorted other helpers) and escort Santa’s Sleigh past hundreds of children and adults taking in the sights. Due to space restrictions, our group is limited to a maximum of 18 greyhounds, so sign up early to reserve your spot (or 2, or 3). Email Debbie to sign up and get more information!

Due to the West Edmonton Mall Chinook Winds meet and greet also scheduled for November 14, this Sunday’s walk has been canceled. Please stay tuned for details of the December walk, the Jingle-On Parade.
